Chloe Paris Fashion Week 2014
There is no respite on the thing that has become known as the luxuriously giant coat. Outsize would be an understatement, these are broad sweeping wrap coats that could happily house a small family. Clare Waight Keller sent out her versions today. She called them unstructured and cited a sweatshirt approach. Certainly, they looked as relaxed. Others – even bulkier, even bigger – intriguingly came in pillowy padded leather (as puffy as a duvet) or made entirely of marabou feathers.
This afternoon’s outing was a continuation of her pre-fall collection, right down to the culottes, the best came in tan tissue-thin leather (as though to hammer the point home, the designer donned a similar pair to take her post-show bow). But it’s the array of flirty silk dresses that Chloe fans come here looking for season after season and there were several of those this afternoon. The prettiest came in vanilla silk, tiered and ruffled with whimsical batwing sleeves. Those customers will likely pick up one of Waight Keller’s ribbed sweater dresses too – just the ticket over a pair of the said culottes, or solo with over-the-knee boots, which also made an appearance.
A bit of hardware to toughen things up is also a Chloe signature. This season that came across via discs and coins and other gold geometric matter appliquéd to the fronts of skirts and elsewhere linked together, giving the illusion of an armoured harness on a black dress.
